Dr. Amod Gupta

Dr. Amod Gupta was born in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh on August 13, 1950. He started his higher education under Mr. Triloki Nath at the DAV College in Chandigarh. Following this, he went on to study at Rohtak Medical College. In 1976 he completed his degree in Ophthalmology. He then joined PGIMER as a resident. At the age of 39, Dr. Gupta became the youngest to reach the honour of the Head of the Department at the Post Graduate Institute in Chandigarh. He soon after became the dean.

In 2006, Dr. Gupta founded the Advanced Eye Center which would soon become known not just locally but internationally. He has spent his career specialising in ophthalmology in the areas of diabetic retinopathy and ocular tuberculosis.

He has been a part of over 190 different articles and publications and has made appearances around the world at over 350 different academic meetings. He was elected into the International Uveitis Study Group, Macula Society and the Vitreoretinal and Uveitis Societies in India. He is also a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences.

In 1996, he was honoured as the first person to receive the Dr. R.N. Mathur Award from the All India Ophthalmological Society. In 2006, he was honoured with the B.P. Kashyap Memorial Oration from the Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 2007 from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2008, he received both the P. Siva Reddy International Award from the India Ophthalmology Society and the Dr. V. R. Khanolakar Oration Award from the National Academy of Medical Sciences. Recently, he was given the great honour of being awarded with the Padmashri from the President of India.

Dr. Amod Gupta has spent the last four decades helping those in need and contributing to numerous studies that have helped to advance eye care in the world today. He has had over 329 different works published in numerous books, journals, and newspapers. He is known around the world as a leader in ocular tuberculosis. He is also known for being the Founder President of the Uveitis Society of India and the President of the Vitreo-Retinal Society of India.
