In 1987, Dr. Gullapalli N. Rao founded the LV Prasad Eye Institute. His medical degree was obtained in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and he went on to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi to continue his education and training in the field of ophthalmology. This is where he completed his postgraduate residency training before venturing to the United States in 1974.
He first started his training in Boston at the University School of Boston before going on to the University of Rochester – School of Medicine. He continued his education in the states until his return to India in 1986.
In 1986, he started practising in India and he now specialises in a number of diseases and problems related to eye care. He specialises in cornea diseases, preventative eye care, transplantation of the cornea and eye banking.
Dr. Rao has over 300 different published journals, articles, and papers to his credit. He is a well known speaker who has given speeches around the world in numerous countries including the U.S., Europe, Asia, Australia and more. He has also received numerous awards for his outstanding work both internationally and nationally.
He serves on the Editorial Boards with several journals and was the Chair and Chief Executive Officer to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. As of now, he stands as the Chair of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.
