Dr. Daljit Singh was born on October 11, 1934. He is known around the country for being the surgeon to Giani Zail Singh, the former President of India.
Dr. Daljit Singh began his secondary education at Khalsa School and then continued on to study pre-med at Khalsa College before joining the Government Medical College in Amritsar where he graduated with an MBBS in 1956. He continued his work for two years as a general practitioner before receiving his Masters in Ophthalmology in 1963.
He has become a member of the faculty at many different institutions including the Government Medical College in both Amritsar and Patiala and became an Emeritus professor after 23 years of dedication.
He has been awarded many different honours including the Padma Shri in 1987. It is known as the fourth highest honour that a civilian can receive. He received the Dr. B.C. Roy Award just seven years later in 1994 from the Medical Council of India. It is known as the highest ranking Indian medical award.
